With Nike not releasing coloured socks with the 2022 kits, black is used across the board for the first time since the 15-16 season. As with other Nike-outfitted leagues, the shorts remain unchanged for the fifth consecutive year.
Somewhat ill-fittingly, Dutch referees eliminate the orange jersey from the rotation when Nike introduces new colourways for the 2020-21 season. Yellow, teal, and purple join the returning black kit as regular options—though only the yellow and teal jerseys get matching socks—with the yellow shirt bizarrely still featuring the nearly-invisible white KNVB logo on the left chest pocket.
On the March 19 weekend in 2021, all referees wore a special grey kit to honour the 10-year anniversary of ARAG’s sponsorship. Both the ARAG and KNVB logos appeared in gold, while black socks complemented the set.
Dutch referees adopt the national team’s orange colours as one of their four choices when the Nike 20 line is released, while the KNVB badge on the shorts now matches the one on the jerseys.
Eredivisie referees wear coloured socks for the first time with the new Nike 16 referee kits, while the KNVB badge undergoes a slight modification on the shirts and shorts.
A fourth colourway is introduced as referees switch to the Nike 12 kit set, with purple and light grey joining yellow and black.
Despite a red version of this kit being available from the manufacturers, Dutch referees stick with the green, grey, and yellow options.
